Our Parish Logo

The logo was designed by Joy Grice in 1980-81 and is featured on the reredos in the sanctuary in the church.

The design is best explained using a photograph of the reredos ...

The top section of the tapestry features a dove to represent God, the Holy Spirit while the tail of the dove links with the three gold sections to form a cross - representing God, the Son, Jesus Christ. The circle, symbolic of the never-ending nature of God,  represents God, the Father. In this way the reredos features the Holy Trinity

The reredos is a tapestry representing over 3,000 hours work. There are over 140 individual embroideries each of which took over 20 hours to make and mount. It is  needlepoint or canvas work with Persian yarn, tapesserie wool with gold and silver knitting yarn.

Our Parish acknowledges the plight of so many across our nation who need life-giving rain. We invite others to join us in offering the following prayer adapted from a prayer by Rev Canon Paul Robertson (2004):

A Prayer for Rain
 


Loving God, whose Son Jesus Christ called all who were thirsty to come to him, believe and drink,

Look in mercy on your Australian people living in a dry land.

Forgive our selfishness in life and our misuse of our natural resources.

We commit ourselves to value and care for your gifts to us.

We ask you for the rain we need to replenish our reservoirs and artesian reserves.

May rivers of living water and practical compassion for all who suffer flow out from our hearts.

Refreshed by your Spirit, and following in the way of Jesus Christ, we will continue to serve you in the people and creation entrusted to our care. Amen.

 
Welcome

The Anglican Parish of Algester is located in the Southern suburbs of Brisbane, approximately 20 kilometres from the centre of Brisbane. The Church of the Holy Spirit can be found on the corner of Algester Road and Ormskirk Street, Algester [UBD Refidex 220 B17]

The Parish is an active worshipping community with a strong sense of serving God and living out His command to serve others. While we have an generally evangelical approach to worship, our worship style cannot easily be labelled - many from a traditional background feel comfortable, as do those with a leaning toward the charismatic expression. Our worshipping community can, however, be identified as being of the Anglican tradition and holds dearly to the richness of our Anglican Church heritage.
